Instructions

In this assessment, you have two main tasks:

  1. Providing some product of your own work that demonstrates your learning from the chapter.
  2. Doing self-assessment about your work and learning.

Demonstrating Your Learning

The main task of the assessment will be for you to provide some product of your own work that demonstrates your learning from the chapter. You can do this in many different ways, so long as it clearly connects to some of the key concepts and facts from the chapter, as well as materials you studied during this chapter's unit (articles, videos, textbook sections.) Make sure to name or link to the course materials you are referencing, so the connections are made clear. It's strongly recommended that you look over the partial list of topics from each chapter to make sure your work relates clearly to as many of them as possible. Whatever form your work takes, you should include your own original thoughts and analysis. Some examples include:

  • Answering the chapter question in writing, video, or audio.
  • Creating a diagram and including an explanation that shows how it connects to course concepts & materials (such as a timeline or a diagram of how several concepts or entities relate to each other.)
  • Analyzing an existing document or technology based on the concepts from the chapter (such as assessing a license agreement in light of privacy or a website in terms of web accessibility.)
  • An interview or conversation with someone who has experience with concepts from the chapter, along with your analysis or responses.
  • Come up with your own document, design, or proposal to address concepts from the chapter (such as a proposal to address copyright infringement or a terms of service of a website to address harassment/freedom of speech.)

If you have an idea for this and are concerned about whether it will meet the expectations, don't hesitate to ask the instructor.

Self-Assessment Questions

For the self-assessment questions, be as thorough and clear as possible. These will be helpful to you and the instructor to evaluate your progress in the course and how the course can best meet your needs.
